    Hardscape – Softscape

    An individual’s interpretation

It really can be viewed as a game of two non-conflicting halves. There is the cost with stone and then the maintenance of more lawn area. A more permanent look with stone, a softer, more refreshing look with plantings and lawn area in the summer months.  Hardscape can be looked at from a proportionate perspective taking into account both the size of the garden and the house. The requirement for walling and steps along with driveways and parking areas will add to that area of hardscape. It’s about creating a balance, a mix of the two, stone walls and herbaceous borders, paving and lawn area. Levels in the garden, how will they flow and look along with attention to detail with the outdoor living area. Will this area be large enough to entertain, have a table, a BBQ and will this area be catching the evening sun in the summer months. Lawn or flower beds for that area over there? All great things to ponder when making a plan, or looking over drawings.
